Brise japonaise and o(. _ .)o m4 goi1 (^ v ^)// is a music concert made up of a beautiful mix of traditional, contemporary and folk music with three accomplished musicians, Yuki Isami on flute, Natsuki Hiratsuka on piano, and Jane Chan on cello.
This concert will be presented in three parts. The evening will open with Brise japonaiseinterpreted by Yuki Isami and Natsuki Hiratsuka, a recital that expresses the blending of Asian heritage and a continuous discovery of Quebec culture, echoing the shock and, above all, the harmony between the past and the present.
In the second part, Jane Chan will present her composition Chinoi series which was created over the past year while Jane was beginning to learn Cantonese, and which explores the fluidity of the language’s tonal structure. She will also perform Pose VI: Monody (2018), a work composed for her by her husband and collaborator Anthony Tan.
For the evening’s finale, the three artists will together perform contemporary pieces followed by arrangements of traditional Asian pieces. These works echo the shock and harmony between the past and present in Asian music history, as well as the origins of these Asian musicians and their daily lives in Canada.
