Masha Mariia Bashmakova

Rooted in curiosity, a broad-spectrum definition of language, and a fascination with distilling the essence things, my practice spans a range of mediums, from visual art and music to new media interdisciplinary works, but my primary art medium is theatre with a focus in performance and directing. Before moving to Montreal to complete a BFA in Performance Creation from Concordia University, I trained in visual art, design and classical piano in the United Arab Emirates.

In the last few years, I have been performing with RANT Theatre, a participatory social-intervention improvised performance form, as well as working on other process-led works, such as devised projects Slice2.0 (directed by Wendel Beavers) and Apathy (directed by Jessica Carmichael). Outside of my theatre work, I spent a lot of time teaching theatre and work in special needs education.
